It’s not about red or blue … It’s not about left or right … It is about right and wrong. –  Leah Boisclair, Candidate Rhode Island General Assembly District 36

Speaking to a packed house at Westerly’s Shelter Harbor Inn, Attorney Leah Boisclair formally announced her entry into the District 36 Democratic Primary for the Rhode Island General Assembly, challenging incumbent Progressive Democrat Tina Spears. (See video below)

A life long resident of South County, Boisclair delivered a speech that focused on unity, accountability and “Common Sense”, managing to strike a near defiant tone in advocating for the politically moderate. The graduate of Roger Williams Law emphasized her commitment to “the small business owner in Westerly … the family in South Kingstown … the fisherman in Charlestown … to the teacher and the nurse on Block Island”

District 36 includes portions of  Westerly, Charlestown, Block Island & South Kingstown. Notably, the seat was formally held by Blake Filippi,  elected Independent, than Republican Minority Leader, before the ascension of Ms. Spears.

The evening was punctuated by the appearance of representatives of The League of Rhode Island Businesses, with 4 individual Political Action Committees donating the legal maximum donation of $2,000 each, for a total of $8,000.

The Primary Election will be held on September 8, 2026. The General Election will be held on November 3, 2026. At time of publication, no Republican or Independent Candidates have announced an intention to run for election.
