“In fact, the Valley Breeze, in publishing these false statements, acted with serious doubts about the truth about many statements, or worse, intentionally lied in publishing these statements” – Patricia Royal, Plaintiff v. Valley Breeze

Former Pawtucket Schools Superintendent Patricia Royal has filed suit against Blackstone Valley newspaper The Valley Breeze, for defamation.

Named in the litigation, as having “knowingly provided false information to the Valley Breeze”, are Assistant Superintendent Lee Rabbit, Pawtucket School Committee Members Ms. Joanne Bonnollo, Ms. Kimberly Grant, Mr. Matthew Wildenhain, Chair Omar Reyes, Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, unnamed members of the Pawtucket City Council, members of the Pawtucket Teachers Alliance, with Union Honcho Ron Beaupre named specifically.

The lawsuit goes on to claim that the Valley Breeze exhibited actual malice, and failed to verify information obtained by sources, a critical component of any defamation proceeding.

A Jury Trial has been requested.

The Coalition has reached out to the office of Mayor Grebien, and Ethan Shorey, Publisher-The Valley Breeze, for comment.
