News Release: From The Rhode Island Airport Corporation

Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) welcomed today’s news that BermudAir, the flag carrier airline of Bermuda, will begin offering nonstop service from Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) to Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA). The nonstop service will begin on May 22, 2025, and operate year-round, twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays. Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport recently gained acclaim as New England’s fastest-growing hub airport, surpassing 4 million passengers in 2024. The flights to Bermuda are PVD‘s newest international destination as the airport prepares to welcome the further expansion of international travel at PVD announced in 2024 by Breeze CEO David Neeleman, who recently stated that Federal Aviation Administration approvals to being international routes are expected by the end of March.

“We are thrilled to welcome BermudAir to Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, President and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “These new and exciting nonstop connections are all part of our commitment to connecting Rhode Island’s business and leisure travelers with premier destinations across the globe.”

“Bermuda and New England have always shared a special connection, and we’re thrilled to make travel between the two even more convenient,” said Adam Scott, Founder & CEO at BermudAir. “With this new nonstop route, Rhode Islanders can swap the mainland for an island escape in just a few short hours, enjoying the relaxation, adventure, and rich culture Bermuda has to offer—all with the comfort and reliability of BermudAir.”

“The Rhode Island Airport Corporation is proud that BermudAir has chosen to expand their service at Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport” said Jonathan N. Savage, Board Chair of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “This new nonstop connection will allow local travelers to experience Bermuda’s vibrant island culture, while also providing Bermudians an opportunity to enjoy their own “Rhode Island getaway” and enjoy all that New England has to offer.”

Flights are expected to be operated on Embraer 175 twin-engine jets, which offer 70 coach and business class seats in a 2/2 configuration with no middle seats. The Embraer E175 aircraft, renowned for its exceptional performance and passenger comfort, offers a perfect blend of sophistication and functionality, providing a superior travel experience to passengers. BermudAir will also soon integrate two new, larger Embraer 190 aircraft offering seating for 96 coach and business class seats in a 2/2 configuration. In addition, travelers can enjoy BermudAir’s signature in-flight service, with complimentary Bermuda-sourced beverages and snacks available to all guests.

U.S. Customs Preclearance Streamlines Travel Experience

As an added convenience, travelers returning to Rhode Island on BermudAir flights from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) will be screened under the U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance program, which means they complete U.S. Customs and Immigration inspection in Bermuda before returning to PVD. Preclearance is a joint program between the Transportation Security Agency and CBP that allows passengers to undergo full U.S. immigration and customs processing and TSA-comparable passenger screening at a foreign airport before traveling to the U.S., saving valuable time as they proceed to connecting flights or their destination. Bermuda’s BDA also recently became the first so-called Preclearance airport outside of Canada recognized under the No-Hassle Flying Act, allowing checked baggage to bypass rescreening when it gets to the states from airports recognized under the Act.

Rhode Island’s Connections with Bermuda

Rhode Island has well-established connections with Bermuda, including the acclaimed bi-annual Newport Bermuda Sailing Race, and URI’s Marine Biology Semester in Bermuda Program. The new route between PVD and Bermuda is expected to help further improve leisure and business connections between Rhode Island and the island nation.
