In anticipation of a seminal August 6 Pawtucket City Council Meeting, Morley Field Activist/Stalwart/Pawtucket City Councilman has submitted the follow letter to Pawtucket City Council President Terrence “Terry” Mercer, specifically addressing the now infamous Tax Stabilization Agreement between the City of Pawtucket and J/K Equities-Blackstone Distribution Center, LLC.

Much of the focus of the letter is placed on serious concerns about the management & disposal of hazardous waste.

“As you are also aware, the site’s hazardous and highly contaminated condition, include the presence of arsenic, TPH and PAHs detected in the soil along with 6 underground hazardous substance storage tanks. In light of the resumption of excavation activities, community concerns extend to the site’s apparent lack of readily observable hazardous release containment measures, including runoff preventions, which appear to be either non- existent or otherwise non-conforming or cursory at best.” – Councilman Gregor

Of note: Copied on the letter? Terence Gray, Director of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management,  Richard Stang, Esq of the Conservation Law Foundation, & Jed Thorp, of Save the Bay. This letter, served just days before a status hearing before the Pawtucket City Council (Held at the City Hall “Annex” on August 6, 2025, 6:30PM), serves as “jump off” point for Activists & City Residents, who have been universally opposed the property sale, pointing out the environmental devastation, and the racial/economic inequities of losing the only “Green Space” available to children in the neighborhood.

It is not know if Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, who conspicuously received campaign contributions from a Principal in J/K Equities, will be in attendance.
