Pawtucket Firefighters IAFF Local 1261, Long Under Siege by Grebien Administration, Endorses Adam Greenman for Mayor of Pawtucket

In a stunning reversal of fortune for embattled Mayor Donald Grebien, Pawtucket Firefighters Union, IAFF Local 1261, has formally endorsed Democratic Candidate for Mayor, inAdam Greenman.
Public Unions have long been a bastion of support for the Grebien Machine, described by some as the last “old school” political “Boss”-style machines in Rhode Island politics. But as the City of Pawtucket has crumbled … the loss of Memorial Hospital .. the Pawxox … The Gamm Theater … and of course, Hasbro … and morphed into a city of mile plus long food lines, the schizophrenic nature of his relationships with key city unions and staff, has led to finger pointing and scapegoating, culminating in the firing of 1261 members for off duty cannabis use, and nearly 100% turnover of city management. (The fired city firefighters have joined a former Superintendent of Schools in suing the City)
From the Adam Greenman Campaign
Today, the Adam Greenman for Mayor of Pawtucket campaign proudly accepted the endorsement of the Pawtucket Firefighters IAFF Local 1261. This major endorsement from the city’s frontline first responders signals powerful momentum for Greenman’s vision of a safer, more resilient Pawtucket.
The endorsement follows a series of policy discussions between Greenman and union leadership regarding the critical needs of the Pawtucket Fire Department, including station modernizations, equipment upgrades, and maintaining the highest standards of emergency medical services for the city’s population. It is the first time in the history of IAFF Local 1261 that they have endorsed a candidate for Mayor.
“I am deeply honored to have the support of the brave men and women of IAFF Local 1261,” said Adam Greenman. “Every day, our firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs put their lives on the line to protect our families and our neighborhoods. They deserve a Mayor who doesn’t just show up for the photo op, but one who shows up every day ready to work as hard as they do to ensure they have the resources, staffing, and respect they’ve earned. As Mayor, I will be a steadfast partner to our fire department, ensuring that public safety remains a top priority.”
The Greenman campaign includes public safety in its plan to Restore Pawtucket’s Pride. This includes:
-
Infrastructure Investment: Replacing aging fire apparatus and addressing deferred maintenance at neighborhood fire stations.
-
First Responder Wellness: Expanding mental health and occupational health resources for firefighters.
-
Community Risk Reduction: Strengthening fire prevention programs and community outreach to reduce emergency incidents.
“The endorsement of Local 1261 is more than just a political milestone; it is a testament to the trust we are building across this city,” Greenman continued. “Together, we are building a new day for Pawtucket where every resident feels safe and every first responder feels valued.
