The Gabe Amo Congressional Update: Netanyahu in Gaza / Trump’s “Deal” Between Armenia & Azerbaijan / Amo Tours Rhode Island Veterans Home Amidst Trump’s Attacks on Those Who’ve Served / Amo, Ross Lead 88 Democrats in Opposing Trump’s Cuts to EPA Office Keeping Americans’ Air Clean and Water Safe

From the Office of Congressman Gabe Amo – Rhode Island Congressional District 1
Amo Statement on Netanyahu’s Planned Occupation of Gaza City
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must halt his planned occupation of Gaza City. As several Israeli military leaders have suggested, further intensification of fighting in Gaza will worsen the humanitarian and hunger crisis and risk any chance of rescuing the hostages still held by Hamas.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has repeatedly prioritized his own interests and staying in power over ending the conflict. Further civilian suffering jeopardizes a future two-state solution in which Israelis and Palestinians can live side-by-side in mutual security and self-determination.
President Trump has gutted our nation’s diplomatic & humanitarian response capacity, abdicated American leadership, and reneged on his rhetorical promises to be a peacemaker. Now is the time for the resumption of the negotiated ceasefire where hostages were released and aid was flowing to civilians.
We must see a permanent ceasefire, surge of sufficient aid distributed to prevent further famine, ensure all possible steps are taken to protect civilian life, and achieve long-term peace and stability in the region.” – August 10, 2025
Amo Statement on Trump’s “Deal” Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
“Rather than finding a true resolution that addresses deep-seated issues, President Trump’s latest tactic in his campaign for a Nobel Peace Prize fails to protect Armenian sovereignty and security. The Armenian people have struggled for so long and deserve a serious deal, and accountability from Azerbaijan. Armenia needs a peace plan that releases Armenian prisoners of war, protects Armenian cultural sites, and allows the more than 120,000 Armenian refugees to return to Artsakh, their ancestral home, to live in peace and safety. I am hoping this announcement is a move toward something real, not another self-aggrandizing stunt that we’ve become too accustomed to seeing.” – August 9, 2025
Trump forced 30,000+ VA employees out of a job, compromising care and ramming through the Big, Ugly Law, which will disproportionately hurt those who’ve served.
Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) visited the Rhode Island Veterans Home, which provides quality social, medical, rehabilitative, and residential care to Rhode Island war Veterans. President Donald Trump’s staff cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) along with cuts to Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and the Affordable Care Act in the Big, Ugly Law will impact Rhode Island Veterans and their families.
“Rhode Island’s Veterans deserve gratitude for their dedicated service and sacrifice to our nation. But honoring our Veterans cannot stop at thank you,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). “Trump is hellbent on undermining the programs that serve our Veterans, from pushing mass layoffs at the VA, to gutting SNAP, to illegally revoking VA employees collective bargaining rights. Providing Veterans with high-quality care requires investment, not cuts. I promise Rhode Islanders who answered the call to our nation, they have a champion in Washington who will fight tooth and nail to protect the benefits they’ve earned.”
“I was honored to host Congressman Amo at the Rhode Island Veterans Home,” said Kasim Yarn, Director of Rhode Island’s Office of Veterans Services. “His visit was a powerful reminder of the vital partnership between state and federal government in serving those who served us. He spent meaningful time with our dedicated staff, connected with our cherished Veteran residents, and experienced firsthand the excellence of our premier facility.” – August 8, 2025
Background
Since his swearing in, Congressman Amo has been committed to supporting Rhode Island’s Veterans.
He voted against Trump’s Big, Ugly Law which gutted SNAP and Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. An estimated 3,000 Rhode Island Veterans received SNAP between 2021 and 2023. As of 2023, 4,200 Rhode Island Veterans were enrolled in Medicaid.
Amo also voted no on the extreme Republican Continuing Resolution earlier this year that failed to fund the PACT Act and their commitment to provide health care to Veterans impacted by toxic exposure.
On February 27, 2024, Amo announced over $586,000 in federal funds to help homeless Veterans and their families find permanent housing.
Amo proudly introduced a bipartisan resolution to support Veteran mental health by establishing “Vets Get Outside Day.”
On February 13, 2025, Congressman Amo introduced a bipartisan bill with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to recognize America’s first integrated military unit — the First Rhode Island Regiment — by posthumously awarding its members with the Congressional Gold Medal.
Amo, Ross Lead 88 Democrats in Opposing Trump’s Cuts to EPA Office Keeping Americans’ Air Clean and Water Safe
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is once again putting polluters over people.
WASHINGTON, DC – TODAY, House Science, Space, and Technology Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI) and Congresswoman Deborah Ross (D-NC) led 88 of their colleagues in demanding answers as to why President Donald Trump and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, shut down the Office of Research and Development, which conducts scientific research the EPA uses to keep our air, water, and soil safe.
The Members write:
“We are alarmed by your decision to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD), the cornerstone of scientific policymaking at the Agency. ORD research informed the implementation of the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Air Act, ensuring that the air Americans breathe and the water they drink are safe and free from dangerous pollutants. Without ORD, EPA will be unable to fulfill its mission to protect human health and the environment.”
“Since January, approximately one-fifth of ORD employees have accepted early retirement. Closing ORD through additional Reductions in Force and reassignments of ORD staff will deprive the Agency of the skilled workforce needed to ensure policies are grounded in the latest science. Gutting EPA’s scientific brain trust will delay the development of new standards needed to protect the health and wellbeing of Americans. Additionally, the brain drain will hamper EPA’s ability to understand and respond to future environmental risks.”
“Your mission to abandon unbiased science, slash EPA’s workforce, and gut critical environmental protections does nothing to protect the health and safety of Americans and their environment.”
