From The Vic Mellor for Congress Campaign:

Congressional candidate Vic Mellor issued the following statement in response to Operation Epic Fury and Iran’s subsequent missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. forces, including facilities associated with the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain:

“For decades, the Iranian regime has engaged in sustained hostility toward the United States and our allies, from the 1979 hostage crisis to the 1983 bombing that killed 241 U.S. Marines, and through the support of proxy forces responsible for attacks on American service members across the region. Aggression without consequence encourages further instability.

Recent strikes against U.S. forces underscore the seriousness of this threat. The United States has both the right and the responsibility to defend its personnel and deter further attacks.”

Mellor emphasized that the objective is stability, not escalation.

“This is not about seeking broader conflict. It is about restoring deterrence and ensuring that American service members are protected. Clear leadership and a consistent defense posture reduce the risk of prolonged instability.”

He also referenced the Iranian regime’s domestic repression and ongoing international concerns.

“The regime has a documented history of suppressing its own citizens and pursuing advanced nuclear enrichment capabilities. A government that threatens regional security while denying basic freedoms at home must be met with resolve and accountability.”

Mellor concluded:

“Our service members are carrying out their mission with professionalism and courage. They deserve unwavering support, clear guidance, and the resources necessary to protect American interests. Rhode Island stands with them.”
